Dear Writers,

Over my years of teaching, parents have asked to bring their teens and tweens with them to writing workshops normally attended by adults, explaining that there aren’t that many creative writing classes in the area geared toward middle-school-age and teenage writers. Watching the marvelous interaction between parent and child about writing inspired me to develop this class for parents/caretakers and their daughters who love to write. This one-day workshop will help parents interact with their child about the material the young writer produces in a fun and nurturing manner.

I’ve already been asked why not a class that includes boys or one for them separately? While I may do just that in the future, this initial class is designed to inspire female voices in a field where there is room for more women in the professional ranks. The class is a tie-in to my book concept called Little Novelist: Nurturing Your Daughter’s Writing Life that will feature handy guides for parents along with interviews with women writers plus some amazing girls who love to write.

I hope you will tell your friends with writing youngsters about this class and of course come yourself if you have a daughter who loves to write.

Where: Whatcom Community College campus in Bellingham WA, Cascade Rm. 165
